Battles to Bikes Annual Fundraiser Ride Sunday, August 16: 9:00 am on the Armstrong Trails. Begin and end at The Bike Lab - Kittanning 140 North Grant Ave Kittanning, Pa 16201 Registration Information Fee: $50 registration fee per person Kids: Kids 12 and under ride for free with an adult! Registration Includes Beer: One (1) beer from Elk Brewing Co. Food: Food provided at Elk Brewing Co. provided by The Allegheny Mariner Rental Bikes: First eight (8) veterans to register who need a rental bike receive a waived rental fee (please contact Jim at The Bike Lab, this is first come first serve, 412-704-4367) Distance Options Three out-and-back distances: 6 miles, 10 miles, 22 miles (in honor of the roughly 22 veterans who commit suicide each day). The Battles to Bikes Story For over 20 years, Jim Yurek (The Bike Lab owner) served his local western Pennsylvania communities as a police officer and in those decades, time and again he interacted with United States veterans in need. At the point he intercepted these American heroes, they were often deep in the throes of trauma, anguish and the feeling that America had forgotten about them. Many of these veterans struggled with mental illness, substance abuse, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and physical injuries related to military combat. Following his retirement from law enforcement, Jim made a significant career change in 2021 and opened The Bike Lab. Jim soon made friends with Drew, an Army veteran and bike …
